Judas Hangs Himself.^{[a] 3} When Judas discovered that Jesus, whom he betrayed, had been condemned he was seized with a sense of remorse, and he brought back the thirty pieces of silver to the chief priests and the elders. ⁴ “I have sinned,” he said, “for I have betrayed innocent blood.” They replied, “Of what importance is that to us? That is your responsibility.” ⁵ Flinging the silver pieces into the temple, he departed. Then he went off and hanged himself.
